3 AC Cancellation Charges will be Rs.180 for each person in ticket (i.e) If you booked three person in a ticket then the cancellation charge would be 3 *180 and the service charges for 3 AC Train ticket will not be refunded.
Did you booked 3 AC train ticket for 2 person? If so, then I think you have received the right refund amount Rs.400 to you bank account for the cancelled train ticket.
Note: You might read about the old article on 3 AC Charges. Rs.180 is the cancellation charges for 3 AC ticket before an year. This year they have revised it to Rs.200 for each person in the train ticket. If two then it would be 2 * 200
Ashok Cancellation charges for 2 AC train ticket is Rs.180 and your service Charges will not be refunded.
The 3AC Cancellation Charges will be Rs.180 for each Person in the train ticket. 3 AC Normal ticket or 3 AC window ticket cancellation charges are same Rs.180 & the service charges will not be refunded.
50% of the train ticket (i.e) Rs.1500 will charged for 3AC cancellation charges if you have cancelled the train ticket before 12 hrs of Journey.

Don’t do manual Cancellation of Tatkal Ticket. Your ticket will get auto cancelled and compared to manual cancellation of Tatkal ticket you will get higher than the manual cancellation of tatkal ticket.
Am in the waiting list 4 for Bangalore express, 16525 on 2/11/16 [2nd AC]. I read somewhere that WL within 5 may get confirmed…is it so? If not, when shall I cancel the ticket to reduce the cancellation charges?

My wife and I have bookings on a train in 2AC in which my seat is confirmed as a Senior Citizen while her booking is WL3 for journey on 11th Dec from Karwar to Mumbai. If her booking does not move to confirmed/RAC will she be barred from travelling with me? We have no issue sharing a berth in case her booking does not get confirmed
When her ticket is not get confirmed, it will move to an auto cancellation. so at the time if she travels with you it will considered as without ticket. so you need to penalty for the same.
Ravi Your Chance for Confirmation are low. If your 2 AC or 3 AC train tickets are not confirmed then the ticket will get auto cancelled and the 2 ac & 3 ac cancellation charges will be automatically refunded to the bank account.

It would be Rs.200 for each passenger in the train tickets. Suppose if you have booked four tickets then it would be 4 X 200 = Rs.800 will taken as cancellation for 3 AC Train Tickets.
