What is IRCTC Service Charge & why is it Charged ?

In general, Service charges is an extra charge for serving customers. It like an charge made for maintenance on Property which was provided to the customers. Indian Railway has to maintain the Quality of the trains, So they started to collect service charge along with their railway tickets. So with the help of the Service Charge collected from the passengers, the collected money will be used for indian railway maintenance such as servicing the train, tune up the speed of the trains, repair the train toilets, tune up the train pantries which will help to serve the Quality food.

What is IRCTC Transaction Charge & how to avoid over charged?

In general transaction charge is collected for each transaction done by passengers.(i.e.) Initial days, when we book train tickets, we used to stand in along queue on railway station and will book the ticket by cash. But now, since technology has improved we started booking our train tickets from online through various cars such as debit , credit cards , master etc.. and Other banks. so for the online transaction of money they will charge. It’s called “Transaction charge”.

  1. Mr Prem Krishnan, My question is why all has to pay transaction charges to a bank for a delayed transaction. (i.e) Due to bank server problems. This has happened to me a Dozen times. Correct me if i am Wrong.

    You are right. As per IRCTC rules they will collect booking Service & Transaction Charges. Delayed Payment is not only happening to you its happening for all. It’s all happening when everyone is trying to accessing server and book train ticket at peak time. To avoid this, you can book train ticket at free time instead of peak time.
